Passion Paragraph

How Parents Can Effect Children's Dreams

When your a child, you want to be a variety of careers; such as a doctor, dancer, or even a pop singer. You get the support of these dreams from your parents your whole life; they just pat you on the back and encourage you to do what ever your heart follows. As soon as you turn 18 or even graduate from high school, it's a whole different sitution; your parents want you to become something you don't want or pressure you to get a job as soon as possible. For example, if your parents were both doctors, they would of course expect you to just become a doctor just like them and push you to go in that field. When parents do that to there children they push them to become something that they aren't passionate about and will regret for their whole lives. Even though they may be trying to just watch out and want the best for their child, its only pushing us to become confused and push us into a path that will not make us happy.

But what if we don't have that kind of support? What if parents just didn't give us any type of support where would your generation be? In the article “Parents Who Don't Parent” the author states, “However, students with poor academic skills who also suffer from a lack of parental involvement or support have virtually no chance of graduating from high school”(Kristof). If we didn't have any type of support it would be hard for students to pick what's going to be best for themselfs. Without a parent or higher authority say,” It's ok to follow that path... your doing a great job,” they only next step to take is to just give up. If we just give up my generation won't become anything and we will just be working a minimum wage job; which will not let us get far in life. If we don't have any support from your parents we are just set up to feel as though we are failing; but we shouldn't give up and keep pushing to become sucessful with any kind of support.

With seeing these two different sides of support it's important to have a balance of support from parents; this way we with have the courage to explore and become what will make us happy in the long term.
